Your Ducts Are the Lifeline of Your HVAC System

The ductwork in your attic is responsible for delivering conditioned air to every room in your home. When ducts are leaking, disconnected, or poorly insulated, your HVAC system works overtime while your comfort suffers. Studies show that leaky ducts can waste 20–30% of the air your system produces—driving up energy bills and leaving rooms too hot or too cold.

The White Glove Guys specialize in attic ductwork for San Diego homes. Whether you need a repair to stop air loss, better insulation to protect against attic heat, or a complete duct installation for a new system or remodel, we do the job right. Every duct connection is properly sealed, insulated, and tested to ensure maximum airflow and efficiency.

Common Issues

Duct Problems We Fix Every Day

Your ductwork is out of sight in the attic, but these common problems have a big impact on your comfort and energy bills.

Leaking Duct Joints

Gaps and cracks at duct connections are the most common cause of energy waste. Conditioned air escapes into your attic instead of reaching your living spaces, forcing your HVAC system to run longer and harder.

Crushed or Disconnected Ducts

Flexible ducts in the attic can become kinked, crushed, or completely disconnected over time—especially after other work is done in the attic. This cuts off airflow to one or more rooms entirely.

Poor Duct Insulation

San Diego attics can reach 150°F in summer. Ducts without adequate insulation absorb that heat, delivering warm air instead of cool. Proper R-value insulation keeps conditioned air at the right temperature.

Uneven Airflow Between Rooms

If some rooms are comfortable while others are always too hot or too cold, the problem is often undersized ducts, improper layout, or damper issues. A duct assessment pinpoints exactly where airflow is restricted.

Excessive Dust & Allergens

Leaky ducts pull in attic dust, insulation fibers, and allergens, circulating them throughout your home. Sealing your ductwork improves indoor air quality and reduces allergy symptoms.

Repair or Replace?

Repair or Replace? Choosing the Right Duct Solution

Depending on the age and condition of your ductwork, repair or full replacement may be the better option. We'll give you an honest recommendation.

Repair Your Ducts

Consider duct repair when these factors apply:

  • Ductwork is less than 15 years old
  • Damage is limited to a few connections or sections
  • Ducts are properly sized for your system
  • Insulation just needs upgrading
  • Overall duct layout and routing is sound

Replace Your Ducts

Consider duct replacement when you notice:

  • Ductwork is 20+ years old or deteriorating
  • Multiple sections are crushed, torn, or disconnected
  • Ducts are undersized for your current HVAC system
  • Persistent mold or pest contamination inside ducts
  • You're installing a new HVAC system and need proper sizing

I recently had my HVAC serviced by ASI and I can’t tell you how happy and relieved I am. Weeks earlier (back in March) I had my system HVAC serviced by Mauzy. After Mauzy left I found the cover not completely seated/installed back on the outdoor condenser unit and a screw laying on the concrete. Additionally, James L., provided me with a list (estimate via email) for the following: 1. Perform condenser coil wash $777.68 2. Remove and replace 40-amp contactor $686.86 3. Install a surge protector (SPD) $994.28 4. Replace HVAC ignitor $362.16 5. Replace flame sensor $362.16 6. Add (to the HVAC system) an extra UV (bulb) system $1,348.74 a. Grand Total = 4,531.88 Back in October 2021 Mauzy billed me $614.06 for 3 to 6 Lbs., of R410A. Back in November 2023 Mauzy billed me $2,345.89 for a new thermostat. Also, during our interaction, he was really pushing for the SPD and indicated the other components will soon fail. He made a statement that some of these SPD’s have an “expiration date” some only good for three years. I told him I have a Surge Protection Device at the main service PNL however he stated this was not good enough. As a certified CA., State WA., State Journeyman electrician I know this was not true and he was comparing an SPD to a carton of milk, very concerning. I then knew I was dealing with a technician with no electrical/HVAC knowledge – he only wanted to sell something. Shortly after he left, I started receiving TEXTS from Kaiya B., (from Mauzy) who was attempting to schedule the recommended service by James L. This is when I notified Kaiya B., that I found a cover loose and a screw on the ground and how disappointed I believed the service was. She got right back and stated she will forward my message to the General Manager however as of this writing I have not heard from anyone at Mauzy. I then contacted ASI and scheduled a full heating and AC service and inspection to ensure nothing else was left incomplete. That’s when the ASI technician discovered two refrigerant caps were missing. These are the caps they remove to measure the R410A refrigerant during operation (discovered by ASI) and are only accessible after removing the condenser cover. These caps were present last year during the service as I observed the service. Additionally, this is a 2025 California Plumbing Code requirement. In closing I I’m really disappointed. As an Army Veteran, 40+ years as an electrician, former building inspector and presently a plans examiner for several jurisdictions in California I feel this is a case of taking advantage of elderly people and over pricing services. The ASI technician could not believe the Mauzy price for coil wash, which was completed by ASI as part of the service call today for $87.00. The additional (other) items on the repair list from Mauzy, ASI stated were not needed looked brand new. I would like to thank the technician Jack Ryan (and ASI) for their honesty/knowledge of the system/thoroughness of the inspection/maintenance and transparency pricing. Additionally, I received a coil wash as part of the system check for a savings of $777.68 dollars. Thanks, Jack, for all your great work, honest pricing and not attempting to take advantage of an Army Veteran 😊. Scott Humphrey San Diego (Crest)

Another great inspection (free) that is included in my membership with ASI. The technician, Travis Tibiatowski was extremely efficient. He answered all my questions and explained things. He inspected every nook and cranny, where water could escape, and found a couple of areas that needed attention. Travis was an extremely nice young man. I would thoroughly recommend Travis and ASI. I wish we had had this service many years ago. Definitely worthwhile.
FAQ

Your Duct Repair & Installation Questions Answered

Common signs include rooms that won’t cool or heat properly, higher-than-expected energy bills, excessive dust in the home, and your HVAC system running constantly without reaching the set temperature. Our technicians can perform a duct inspection to identify and quantify any air loss.

Absolutely. Your HVAC system is only as good as the ducts that deliver the air. Leaky, crushed, or poorly insulated ducts force your AC or furnace to work much harder, increasing wear and tear, raising energy costs, and shortening the life of your equipment.

Most duct repairs—sealing leaks, reconnecting sections, and adding insulation—are completed in a single day. Full duct replacement or new installation for a whole home typically takes one to two days depending on the size and complexity of the layout.

If your ducts are relatively new and the damage is limited to a few areas, repair is usually the best value. For older ductwork with widespread deterioration, undersized runs, or contamination, replacement delivers better long-term comfort and efficiency. We’ll inspect your system and give you an honest recommendation.

Yes. Whether you’re adding a room, converting a garage, or building new, ASI designs and installs ductwork that integrates with your existing HVAC system. We handle load calculations, duct sizing, and proper routing to ensure balanced airflow throughout your home.
