When Your AC Fails, Call ASI

A broken air conditioner in San Diego isn’t just uncomfortable—it can be dangerous, especially during summer heat waves. Whether your AC stopped blowing cold air, is making strange noises, or won’t turn on at all, The White Glove Guys can diagnose and repair the problem quickly.

We service all major brands including Carrier, Lennox, Trane, Rheem, York, Goodman, and more. With same-day service available and upfront pricing on every repair, you’ll never be left guessing. We carry common parts on our trucks, so most repairs are completed in a single visit.

Most AC failures in San Diego trace back to a handful of common culprits. Low refrigerant from a slow leak, a failed capacitor or contactor, a clogged condensate drain, frozen evaporator coils, or a worn compressor are the issues we see most often. Many of these start small and quietly get worse, so a system that simply seems weak today can stop cooling entirely within days. A proper diagnosis matters because replacing a part without finding the underlying cause, such as topping off refrigerant on a leaking coil, only delays the next breakdown and adds cost over time.

Common Issues

AC Problems We Fix Every Day

Our expert technicians have seen it all and can quickly diagnose and repair these common air conditioning issues.

AC Won't Turn On

A non-starting AC can be caused by tripped breakers, thermostat issues, or faulty capacitors. Our technicians systematically check each component to find and fix the root cause quickly.

Blowing Warm Air

If your AC is running but blowing warm air, the issue could be low refrigerant, a dirty evaporator coil, or a failing compressor. We diagnose accurately so you only pay for the repair you actually need.

Strange Noises

Grinding, squealing, or banging from your AC unit signals mechanical trouble—worn bearings, loose parts, or compressor issues. Ignoring these sounds leads to more expensive repairs later.

Water Leaking

Water pooling around your indoor unit usually means a clogged condensate drain or frozen evaporator coil. Both require prompt attention to prevent water damage to your home.

Short Cycling

If your AC turns on and off frequently without properly cooling your home, it may have an oversized system, dirty filter, or electrical issue. This wastes energy and stresses the equipment.

Weak or Low Airflow

If your vents barely push air even with the system running, cooling suffers and rooms stay warm. Common causes include a clogged air filter, blocked or leaky ductwork, a failing blower motor, or a dirty evaporator coil restricting flow. In dusty inland areas filters load up quickly and choke the system. ASI technicians measure airflow at the vents, inspect the blower and coil, check for duct leaks, and pinpoint the restriction. We then clear, repair, or replace the failed component so your AC moves the full volume of cool air it was designed to deliver.

AC Tripping the Breaker

An air conditioner that repeatedly trips the breaker is telling you something is wrong, and ignoring it risks damage. Causes include a failing compressor drawing excess current, a shorted capacitor or contactor, loose or corroded wiring, or a dirty condenser coil making the unit work too hard. Coastal salt air accelerates electrical corrosion across San Diego. ASI technicians test electrical loads, inspect wiring and components, and check refrigerant pressures to find the true source. We repair the fault safely and verify the system draws normal current before leaving, so it runs without nuisance trips.

AC Cannot Keep Up on Hot Days

Some systems cool fine on mild days but fall behind during a heat wave, never reaching the thermostat setting. This often points to low refrigerant, a dirty condenser coil shedding heat poorly, an aging compressor losing capacity, or an undersized or leaky duct system. Inland San Diego homes feel this most when temperatures climb past 95 degrees. ASI inspects refrigerant charge, coil condition, and overall capacity, then explains whether a targeted repair restores performance or whether an aging unit is simply at the end of its service life. You get clear options and upfront pricing.

Bad Odors From the AC

Musty, sour, or burning smells from your vents are never normal. A musty odor usually means mold or mildew growing on a damp evaporator coil or in a clogged condensate drain, common in humid coastal conditions. A burning or hot-plastic smell can signal an overheating motor or electrical fault and should be treated as urgent. ASI locates the source, cleans and disinfects the coil and drain line, and inspects electrical components for overheating. We resolve the cause so your home gets clean, fresh air instead of recirculated odors and potential allergens.

Repair or Replace?

Repair or Replace? Making the Right Decision

One of the most common questions we hear is: "Should I repair my AC or replace it?" We'll give you an honest recommendation based on your specific situation.

Repair Your AC

Consider repair when these factors apply:

  • System is less than 10-12 years old
  • Repair costs less than 50% of replacement
  • System has been regularly maintained
  • This is your first major repair
  • System is properly sized for your home

Replace Your AC

Consider replacement when you notice:

  • System is 15+ years old
  • Frequent, costly repairs adding up
  • Energy bills increasing significantly
  • Uses R-22 refrigerant (being phased out)
  • Uneven cooling or persistent hot spots

I recently had maintenance done on my AC and furnace by ASI, and I wanted to highlight the great experience I had—especially with the technician, Jesus. From start to finish, Jesus was extremely professional, thorough, and clearly very knowledgeable about his work. He took the time to carefully service and clean both the AC and furnace, making sure everything was running properly and efficiently. What really stood out to me was his attention to detail—he didn’t rush the job and even went the extra mile by cleaning the outside of the unit, which I truly appreciated. On top of that, his customer service was outstanding. He was friendly, respectful, and took the time to explain what he was doing, which gave me a lot of confidence in the work being performed. Overall, I’m very satisfied with the service and the level of care provided. I will definitely be using ASI again in the future and would highly recommend requesting Jesus if you want the job done right.

After 21 years of faithful service our heater finally gave out. ASI came to the house and we went over a few options as to repair or replace. We elected the latter, and the very next morning ASI was on site with the new heater. Within 6 hours, Sebastian Garcia and his helper had the new heater installed. Sebastian spent some time explaining how to use the new thermostat, which is so much easier to use than the previous one. By the time they left the garage was clean and all the old stuff was carted away. A great job by an outstanding company. This morning I checked my old paperwork and found that the new heater and thermostat were only a couple of hundred dollars more than the ones I had purchased 21 years ago. ASI really offers good prices and great equipment. A special thanks to the service manager Joe Gondak for keeping in touch with the crew to insure there were no problems during the installation

Your AC Repair Questions Answered

We offer same-day service for most AC repairs. Many repairs are completed in a single visit since we carry common parts on our trucks. For more complex issues, we’ll order the part and schedule a follow-up as quickly as possible.

No. ASI never charges extra for nights or weekends. We understand that AC problems don’t follow a 9-to-5 schedule, so we make ourselves available when you need us most—at the same fair price.

AC repair costs vary depending on the issue. Simple fixes like a capacitor replacement or thermostat repair are relatively affordable, while compressor or coil replacements cost more. We always provide upfront pricing before starting any work—no surprises.

If your system is under 12 years old and repair costs are less than half the price of replacement, repair usually makes sense. For older units with frequent breakdowns or those using R-22 refrigerant, replacement is often the better long-term investment. We’ll help you make the right call.

Yes. Our certified technicians are trained on all major brands including Carrier, Lennox, Trane, Rheem, York, Goodman, Amana, and more.

Watch for warm air coming from the vents, weak airflow, the system short cycling, unusual noises like grinding or squealing, water leaking around the unit, and a sudden jump in your energy bill. Strange odors and ice forming on the refrigerant lines are also red flags. If you notice any of these, it is best to have a technician diagnose the problem before it gets worse.

Yes. ASI offers financing options so an unexpected repair does not have to strain your budget. We can review affordable monthly payment plans with you before any work begins, and you will still receive our upfront flat-rate pricing and 100 percent satisfaction guarantee.
